Australia’s Minister for Defence the Hon, Joel Fitzgibbon inspected the first Nary Special Operations Vehicles, procured from the U.K.’s Supacat Limited, to be delivered while visiting the Special Air Services Regiment (SASR) at Campbell Barracks in Western Australia.

The new vehicles will be used by Australia’s Special Forces, and were delivered by the Defence Materiel Organisation under Project Redfin. The project will enhance the ADF Special Operations capability, and will introduce a range of combat and support vehicles.

“As part of Project Redfin, the Long Range Patrol Vehicle currently used by Australia’s Special Forces will be replaced with a new Special Operations Vehicle,” Fitzgibbon said during his Oct. 27 visit.

The Special Operations Vehicle has been named the ‘Nary’, in honor of Warrant Officer Class Two David Nary, an Australian Special Forces soldier who died during a training operation in the Middle East in 2005.

“As a key exponent and developer of the Long Range Patrol Vehicle capability, naming this vehicle after Warrant Officer Nary is a fitting honor,” Fitzgibbon said.
