The private equity firm Acorn Growth Companies on Monday said it has acquired CIS Secure Computing, Inc., marking its second acquisition in the defense electronics space.
CIS, which is based in Northern Virginia, develops and manufactures products such as secure telephones, secure computers, encrypted tactical communications systems, secure conferencing systems, and other products. The company also touts its ability to modify commercial-off-the-shelf systems to “support stringent government requirements.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Headlines continue to serve as daily reminders that networks are not safe and that cyberspace is anything but secure,” Rick Nagel, managing partner for Acorn, said in a statement. “CIS has a proven track record and excellent past performance proving that sometimes the best solutions to software weaknesses are hardware solutions. CIS is the undisputed market leader in providing these solutions to the United States Departments of Defense and Energy, and is poised to support America’s need for greater network security.”
CIS said that Acorn will continue to invest in the company so that “it can enter new markets and expand those in which it already has a lead.”
Bluestone Capital Partners served as CIS’ financial advisor on the deal.
In July, Acorn acquired Telecommunications Support Services, Inc., its first acquisition in the defense electronics area.
