The Air Force has awarded Raytheon [RTN] a $31 million contract to design new devices for encrypting and transmitting voice and data traffic, the company said yesterday.
Raytheon said it will be the first upgrade in more than two decades for the transmitters designed to be portable and used in airborne, land or sea operations. Raytheon was tasked with designing lighter and more power-efficient systems.
Under the Air Force’s VINSON/ANDVT Crypto Modernization (VACM), Raytheon will be responsible for the designing and testing of the new transmitters before the legacy systems will be replaced, the company said.
