The Air Force seeks repair sources for the Head Up Display (HUD) and related components on F-16 Blocks 30/32, 40/42 and 50/52 according to a June 27 request for information (RFI) posted on Federal Business Opportunities.
The Air Force owns only limited data rights and level two drawings, which are insufficient to qualify new sources. BAE Systems is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of this F-16 HUD. The service currently knows of only two sources, BAE Systems and International Enterprises, that are known to own, or have the legal right, to use the engineering and technical data necessary to successfully repair these items.
Sources interested in qualifying for the repair of the F-16 HUD must be able to demonstrate that they possess the capabilities of obtaining the required technical, engineering and manufacturing data from the original OEMS and that they possess the capabilities of repair these items.
Sources that are interested in qualifying for the repair of the HUD must also be able to maintain the facilities and the personnel to store, maintain and operate repair systems acceptable to the government. Information received with the submitted SAR must include (1) complete and current engineering data to demonstrate the acceptability of the offered parts repair service (i.e. salient physical, functional and serviceability characteristics), and/or (2) data that the offered parts have been satisfactorily repaired for the government and the original OEM.
Interested sources may identify their interest and capability to respond by submitting a Source Approval Request (SAR) to the design control authority at the Air Force Global Logistics Support Center. Interested companies must respond by August 27.
Lockheed Martin [LMT] develops the F-16.
Interested sources should respond to contracting officer Julianne Gibby; AF GLSC, 748 SCMG/PKBB, 6050 Gum Lane, Bldg. 1215, Hill AFB, UT, 84056-5825. Email: [email protected].
