American Science and Engineering [ASEI] has received a $3.4 million contract from the Defense Department for service, support, and spare parts for Z Backscatter Vans (ZBVs). The contract is the final option of a multi-year award valued at $46.2 million that was received in Sept. 2006. Separately, Stephens Inc. security analyst Tim Quillin, who recently met with AS&E management, says the company will soon get an order for 22 ZBVs from the Army, and possibly a 68 unit order in September for its new ZBV trailers from the Marines. He says he already had largely factored these orders into his projections. He also says the company’s Z Portal is being installed at a Southwest border location for a six-month test, which could lead an order potentially worth tens of millions of dollars. Finally, Quillin says that it appears that the Cargo Advanced Automated Radiography System that AS&E has been developing for the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office “will not move into production.”
