After rescinding earlier this year an initial $9.1 million for MobileSearch HE (High Energy) cargo and vehicle inspection systems, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has awarded American Science and Engineering [ASEI] an $11.8 million contract for multiple MobileSearch HE systems. After rescinding the original order, CBP issued a reevaluation notice of proposals and increased the value of AS&E’s award. MobileSearch HE is equipped with both high-energy and Z Backscatter X-Ray imaging for threat and contraband detection. The award was made using funds from the Recovery Act. Separately, the company says it has received a multimillion dollar follow-on order from the NATO C3 Agency (NC3A) for the multi-view Z Portal X-Ray vehicle and cargo inspection system. The system will be deployed at a security checkpoint. “This new follow-on order demonstrates NC3A’s satisfaction with the Z Portal system’s capabilities,” says Anthony Fabiano, AS&E’s president and CEO.
