An industry association representing stakeholders in unmanned systems is working with a company that provides cyber risk assessments across vendor’s supply chains are partnering on a collaborative effort by industry to develop a cybersecurity risk-based framework for uncrewed vehicles.
The industry-wide effort is a “proven” method to develop voluntary standards to bolster cyber security, the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) said on Tuesday. AUVSI said it is working with Fortress Information Security, whose previous work led to voluntary cybersecurity risk-based standards for the utilities industry.
AUVSI said it is creating an industry working group of its member organizations that will work with Fortress to begin developing the framework, with the goal being to complete the work in less than a year.
“Uncrewed vehicles, air, ground and maritime, are relied upon for national defense, public safety, commercial delivery, critical infrastructure protection, and more,” Michael Robbins, executive vice president for government and public affairs at AUVSI, said in a statement. “These technologies are increasingly part of the economic foundation for nations across the globe. “A cyber-secure foundation built on universal industry standards among industry stakeholders and suppliers will help to ensure the economic and operational potential of uncrewed vehicles is reached.”
