The U.S. Air Force awarded BAE Systems a contract worth about $279 million to provide multiple agencies with a range of radar support services, the company said Tuesday.
The firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost-reimbursable contract is for the Instrumentation Radar Support Program (IRSP) and is set to be incrementally obligated. It is a result of a competitive acquisition with one offer received.
BAE Systems has managed IRSP, a government-administered co-op program, since 1985. It was established to provide agencies support with similar radar, telemetry, and optical tracking systems in addition to compatible missions. It currently supports over 500 systems, ranging from logistical upgrades to complete depot-level overhauls, the company said.
“Our employees average more than 20 years of experience in test range operations, maintenance, and system sustainment. This team of experts understands the IRSP mission and how to design, develop, and deliver cutting edge instrumentation support,” DeEtte Gray, president of the intelligence and security sector at BAE Systems, said in a statement.
The IRSP contract will have BAE Systems provide serviceable components and subsystems for 28 test ranges with radar, telemetry, and optical tracking systems. IRSP provides services across the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, NASA and seven foreign governments.
The Air Force initially obligated $200,000 at award time. Contract work is to be principally performed at the company’s IRSP component repair facility in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2020. The contracting activity is the 45th Contracting Squadron, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla.
