BAE Systems yesterday said it received an $11.4 million Army contract to provide 3,602 Gunner Protective Kits and 799 Gunner Shield Kits for M1151 and M1114 vehicles.

“Providing products that keep our men and women in uniform safe while in combat is a key priority,” said Robert Houston, vice president of Support and Technical Services at BAE Systems. “The Gunner Protection Kit and Shield allows the soldier to maintain a protected posture while performing mission objectives with full visibility through the vehicle’s armored turret.”

The Gunner Protective Kits improve gunner protection with taller armoring and transparent shields, offering improved visibility of the surrounding area, the company said in a statement. The system includes a combination of steel, transparent armor windows and rear-view mirrors configured to provide protection against rifle fire and roadside bomb blasts. The weapon systems are mounted to the Gunner Shield Kit which provides the gunner with protection while firing the weapon.

The first delivery of the kits is expected in November. The work for this contract will be performed at BAE Systems’ facility in Fairfield, Ohio.

To date, BAE Systems has provided 6,413 kits to the Army.
