President Biden nominated U.S. Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Dave Allvin as the service’s new uniformed head to replace Gen. Charles Q. Brown, whom Biden has nominated to become the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A 1986 graduate of the Air Force Academy, Allvin “has commanded at the squadron and wing levels, including the 97th Air Mobility Wing” at Altus AFB, Okla., according to his Air Force biography.
Other service includes as the commander of the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing in Afghanistan; as the Air Force’s deputy chief of staff for strategic plans and requirements; as the director of strategy, plans and policy for U.S. European Command; and as the J-5 at the Pentagon, the Joint Staff’s director for strategy, plans and policy.
Allvin “is a command pilot with more than 4,600 hours, including 800 flight test hours in more than 30 aircraft and 100 combat hours in Iraq and Afghanistan,” The Air Force said.
In April, Allvin told the readiness panel of the House Armed Services Committee that the Air Force needs to ramp up its numbers of Lockheed Martin [LMT] F-35A and Boeing [BA] F-15EX fighters for possible use in Indo-Pacific Command (Defense Daily, Apr. 19).
