BlueHalo on Wednesday said it has acquired Ipsolon Research, a designer and manufacturer of small form factor software defined radios (SDRs) for land and airborne military applications.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BlueHalo, a portfolio company of Arlington Capital Partners, said the acquisition will give it an in-house capability to speed its rapid prototyping efforts and get products delivered faster while ensuring quality. Ipsolon’s SDRs are already in several BlueHalo products, the company said, adding that it plans to further integrated the small radios across its product lines.

“As SDRs continue to become more critical and ubiquitous in the development of next generation technology across the full portfolio of BlueHalo’s products, Ipsolon stood out as a perfect fit to further accelerate our mission and create efficiencies for our customers, deliver rapid capabilities, and facilitate increased creativity by having in-house SDR capabilities,” Jonathan Moneymaker, BlueHalo’s CEO, said in a statement.

Ipsolon was founded in 2018 and its SDRs are used by Defense Department customers, including the Navy and Air Force. John Shanton, Ipsolon’s founder and CEO, will remain with the company.

Ipsolon currently offers two SDRs, Cerberus and Chameleon, both made for small form factor radios. The Maryland-based company also provides custom services.
