Optosecurity has received a $1.3 million contract from the Transportation Security Administration under the agency’s Security Innovation Concepts Broad Agency Announcement. The company also recently received from Schiphol Group, which manages Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, its first major purchase order of the OptoScreener software upgrade in preparation for the upcoming partial liquid ban lift in Europe in Jan. 2014. OptoScreener is used to five checkpoint X-Ray equipment automated threat detection capabilities.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP), just ahead of the federal government shutdown, says it remains on track to award a contract for the Integrated Fixed Tower (IFT) system late in the first quarter of FY ’14, which would be by the end of December. CBP says it held System Maturity and Development Capability Demonstrations in the third quarter of FY ’13 for those offerors that were within the competitive range.
Astrophysics Inc., a developer and manufacturer of X-Ray systems, has opened a sales and service office in Northern Virginia to better serve its growing federal government clientele. The office will be led by Mark Laustra, a former vice president of Smiths Detection in charge of U.S. government sales, who will focus on expanding the company’s footprint in the federal market.
The Transportation Security Administration is awarding the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) a potential $347,691 contract bridge to continue to provide fingerprint processing services until the new contractor, SightComm, is ready to transition into the role. AAAE currently serves as the central location for all fingerprint files that are received from the TSA field offices and airport offices and then stored. The award has a four-month base period and two one-month options.
TSA plans to award Leidos [LDOS] a $148,323 contract to provide materials to support installation of CT-80DR explosive detection systems (EDS) at various airports. Leidos, through its acquisition of Reveal Imaging Technologies, is the manufacturer of the CT-80DR reduced-size EDS system, which is used to screen checked baggage for explosives at certain small and medium-sized airports.
