Customs and Border Protection, thanks to the government shutdown last month, has delayed award of the contract for fixed surveillance towers along certain parts of the Southwest Border until the second quarter of FY ’14, which is during the first three months of 2014. CBP had previously said the award for the Integrated Fixed Tower (IFT) contract would occur in the first quarter of FY ’14. Industry officials were expecting an award in December at the earliest. Some say they don’t expect an award until late February.
Brad Buswell, who former chief of Morpho Detection, Inc., before leaving the company earlier this year, has joined OSI Systems’ [OSIS] Rapiscan Systems division as president of Rapiscan Aviation Products. Buswell will be responsible for overseeing Rapiscan’s growing position as a security solution provider to the global aviation market.
Leidos [LDOS] has received two contracts from the Transportation Security Administration related to its Reveal CT-80DR reduced-size explosive detection systems. One award is valued at $225,770 was for algorithm work for upgrades for homemade explosives detection. The other award is for $213,049 for rigging oversight, integration, networking and ancillary equipment for the company’s reduced-size EDS deployed at certain airports.
Savi Technology says it has bid on the Defense Department’s Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) IV program to provide a common, integrated structure for logistics tracking, locating, and monitoring of assets and commodities for the department and its components, the Coast Guard, NATO , coalition partners and other federal agencies. Savi has offered the company’s ISO18000-7 RFID tags and a suite of satellite communications solutions by one of its teammates, ORBCOMM [ORBC]. The company says that RFID IV is worth $200 million.
Implant Sciences [IMSC] says the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has notified that company that its QS-B220 desktop explosives trace detector has been accepted onto the “Qualified” section of the Air Cargo Screening Technology List. This acceptance follows the approved status granted by TSA in January and means the QS-B220 joints the list of products from which regulated parties are encouraged to purchase security solutions.
The Department of Homeland Security plans to award The Rand Corp. a task order to provide analytic support to continue improved measurement and management of the department’s priorities for the full-spectrum of cyber security capabilities. The value of the task order was not disclosed.
