L-3 Communications [LLL] President and COO Christopher Kubasik says during the third quarter the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority awarded made two orders for the company to supply 10 explosive detection systems (EDS). He also says L-3 is providing EDS systems to Turkey’s Istanbul Airport after winning a competitive tender for checked baggage screening systems. The U.S. Transportation Security Administration also ordered additional ProVision 2 AIT systems for U.S. airports, bringing the installed base of ProVisions to 1,800 at more than 300 airports worldwide, he says.
The Coast Guard in October began installation of Boeing’s [BA] ScanEagle small unmanned aircraft system aboard the national Security Cutter Stratton. Boeing in June received an initial $4.5 million task order that includes operation, integration, maintenance and sparing of a contractor-owned small UAS on one NSC for one year. The Coast Guard plans to deploy the system in 2017. The contract includes options for deployment of and data from the UAS for up to three additional years.
Ansera Analytics, LLC has received a two-year $1 million Phase II Small Business Innovation Research grant to continue work on the next-generation of the Army’s CBRNE Reconnaissance Sampling Kit. Ansera says that the project includes enhanced sample collection, preparation and preservation, a unified technology format for the presumptive identification of chemical, biological and explosive agents, sample analysis and data integration with TacDOGS, and a quality assurance and training program.
Michael Baker International, working with the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NAPSG) Foundation, has received a contract from the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology branch to develop emergency response guidelines and a solution to address the need for timely, reliable, and accessible sources of preparedness and real-time operational information that local decision makers can rely on during flooding events. “We are motivated by the data structure that will be produced from advances in 9-1-1 technology and eager to explore how that is applied to sharing other core mission critical information,” says Sandi Stroud, public safety national director at Michael Baker.
Safran Group says its Identity & Security business, which has a large footprint in the United States, later this year will open a facility in Silicon Valley that will feature an innovation center with a focus on digital payment, digital identity and the Internet of Things. “Being at the forefront of biometrics, digital identity and security technologies, it was the next logical step for us to become part of the vibrant innovation community in Silicon Valley,” says Anne Bouverot, CEO of Safran Identity & Security. The Identity & Security business is being sold to the private equity firm Advent International.
