Customs and Border Protection says its officers at the Laredo Port of Entry in Texas identified a Mexican female traveler as an impostor using another person’s lawful permanent resident card through the use of facial biometrics. The apprehension took place on Sept. 20 at the Gateway to the America’s Bridge at a pedestrian entry lane. The agency says that facial biometrics have prevented more than 900 impostors from entering the U.S. since 2018.

The Institute for Defense Analyses

has received a nine-month $677,186 award from the Department of Homeland Security to provide assessment and recommendation support services aimed at optimizing the effectiveness of the department’s research and development portfolio. The services are being provides through the National Science Foundation, Science and Technology Policy Institute Federally Funded Research and Development Center.

Customs and Border Protection is awarding McQ, Inc. a sole-source contract for Radar Triggered Trail Cameras, Sensors, and Training for the update, maintenance and enhancement of the existing Border Patrol unattended ground sensor deployed inventory. The work will include refreshing outdated technology. The award is a small business set-aside.

The Department of Homeland Security has awarded 37 grants totaling $20 million under the fiscal year 2021 Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program, which is managed by the DHS Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships. The awardees include universities, state and local government entities, and non-profit groups. The TVTP program “prioritizes investments that empower and equip communities across our country to prevent acts of violence before they occur,” says Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
