Smiths Detection says it will provide 110 Radiation Portal Monitors to the Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office under a recent $34 million contract. The RPMs will be deployed at land border crossings across the U.S. Smiths is partnered with Radiation Solutions Inc. on the contract. DHS also awarded Leidos a $26.8 million contract for 106 RPMs.

[EVLV] says the NFL’s Tennessee Titans are using the company’s Evolv Express artificial intelligence-based weapons detection system to screen fans entering the team’s Nissan Stadium for games and events. The screening technology doesn’t require people to stop or remove items from their pockets or bags. “For us, it was vitally important to find a way to allow for fast, convenient entry while prioritizing safety and security,” says David Haywood, guest safety director for the Titans.

Liberty Defense has made two more key hires as the relatively new company, which is focused on concealed weapons and threat detection solutions, beefs up its technical talent to work on its high-definition advanced imaging body scanner and airport shoe scanner. Ajay Subramanian joins the company as its principal RF Design Engineer after working for Raytheon Technologies. Jeffrey Gordon will be the company’s vice president of engineering. He helped develop the ProVision body scanner supplied by Leidos to the U.S. Transportation Security Administration and other security agencies.

The Department of Homeland Security is delaying until December notifying vendors that their proposals have been down-selected to compete for work under the first phase of the FirstSource III small business information technology program. In September, DHS said it expected to notify awardees in October, a month later than planned due to an unexpected high volume of proposals. Phase II proposals were due in November but have been delayed until Jan. 2022 with awards in Aug. 2022. The program is worth up to $10 billion over 10 years. DHS says it has received 637 proposals from 325 offerors.
