*The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) plans to award a five-year, $5 million contract to AMETEK for the acquisition of ORTEC Micro Detective-HX human portable radiation detectors. The award will be made on a sole source basis and is expected to be made by early July, DNDO says in the FedBizOpps. The ORTEC Micro Detective-HX was developed under DNDO’s Human Portable Radiation Detection System program.

*Aerient, LLC, has received a potential $7.1 million task order to provide administrative and technical support services to the Transportation Security Laboratory business office in Atlantic City, N.J. The award was made under the Department of Homeland Security EAGLE contract. Aerient is made up of three small businesses: Avineon, Inc.; BlueWater Technology Solutions; and IntelliDyne, LLC.

*Implant Sciences Corp. [IMSC] says its net loss in the FY ’11 second quarter narrowed to $9.4 million versus $19.1 million a year ago as sales jumped over 400 percent to $3.1 million from $603,000. Implant says most of the loss in the quarter was due to an $8.3 million non-cash charge in fair value adjustment related to financing activities. Sales were up on deployments of the company’s explosive trace detectors in China, Spain, Mexico and Japan. Gross margins more than doubled to 45.2 percent due to production efficiencies by the company’s outsources contract manufacturer and lower per unit manufacturing overhead.
