Europe and the United States both have wrestled with the best ways to introduce unmanned aerial systems technologies while respecting the privacy rights of their citizens and safety of nearby manned aircraft. It will be interesting to see how authorities in the U.K. and on the Continent handle UAS integration, their uses and the laws that govern them compared with regulations applied in the United States.
The Police Innovation fund has bequeathed £250,000 to Surrey and Sussex Police, so it can perform the “largest trial of police drones in England and Wales”. Clearly the rozzers haven’t done that much work with drones in the past, since this test will only involve five UAVs – four of which are brand new.
