CBP Air and Marine Issues RFI for Communications Equipment and Sensors

Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Air and Marine has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to help identify a pool of potential sources capable of providing new, upgraded, refurbished or replenished communication and sensor equipment for its fleet of aircraft and vessels. The agency seeks to establish an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract vehicle for the purchase of the equipment. The equipment will include electro-optic and infrared cameras, turrets, radars, avionics, navigation, software, radios, antennas, satellite communications, and more. Sol. No. RFI02—25-19AMO. Agencies Seek Plans for Opioid Detection in International Mail

Several government agencies have joined for the Opioid Detection Challenge, which offers up to $1.6 million for a global prize competition that calls on innovators to submit plans for rapid, non-intrusive detection tools to help find illicit opioids being smuggled into the U.S. through international mail. The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate, Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Postal Service and the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy have teamed on the challenge, which is open to international and domestic entrants. Proposals are due by April 24 and from the entries the judges will select up to eight bids to advance to the second stage of the competition. Each finalist will receive an equal share of the $800,000 State 1 prize pool. Finalists for the second stage will participate in a 14-week “prototyping accelerator,” providing testable prototypes to compete for an additional $750,000 cash prize.  The stage will end in a live test event hosted by DHS where the finalists will be present for on-site testing.
