TSA Issues RFI for Biometric-Based Credential Authentication System

The Transportation Security Administration has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for credential authentication technology (CAT) that would be equipped with digital identity and biometric identity verification (IDV) capabilities to further automate the process of validating passengers’ credentials, flight information and pre-screening status in near real time through a network connection with the Secure Flight database. IDEMIA is currently providing TSA with the CAT system. TSA is also piloting a CAT system equipped with a camera for facial comparison of a passenger’s travel document to enhance the accuracy of credential matching and validation, speed travelers through the checkpoint, and social distance. TSA in the RFI says that the system shall validate a passenger’s ID and display authentication results to the operator, and obtain flight reservation and pre-screening status. The system will have the ability to be upgraded to include identify verification, including one-to-one matching off a travel document, and integrate with a cloud-based one-to-many biometric matching capability. TSA also wants the system to be able to interface with digital identity products such as mobile driver’s licenses. Notice ID: TSA25-04-03473. Respond by Dec. 2. Contact: Melyssa Bertucci,
