DHS S&T Issues RFI for UAS Public Safety Project
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology (S&T) branch has issued a Request for Information (RFI) entitled “Robotic Aircraft for Public Safety” that it expects to lead to flight testing and evaluation of airborne sensors and small unmanned aircraft systems (SUAS) for eventual transition to stakeholders of the Borders and Maritime Security Division within S&T. The plan is to invite SUAS vendors to chose location and evaluate each system using key performance parameters under a wide variety of simulated but realistic and relevant real world operational scenarios such as law enforcement operations, search and rescue, and fire and hazardous material spill response. The vendors will be expected to provide technically mature, fight proven vehicles and their fully integrated sensors for evaluation. Safety concerns will also be assessed such as the aircraft’s capability for safe flight in the event of a loss of communications between the aircraft and the ground controller. S&T plans to use the Army’s Fort Sill test range in Oklahoma for the evaluations. Sol. No. DHS13-01. Respond by Oct. 31. Contact: Amalia Rodezno, contract specialist, [email protected].
