Canada’s CAE on Monday said it has agreed to acquire Bombardier’s Military Aviation Training business for $15.9 million, enhancing its capabilities as a training systems integrator and expanding its offering into support for live flying training of future military pilots.
The deal is expected to close this year pending regulatory approvals.
CAE said the acquisition will allow it to become the prime contractor for the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC) program that produces qualified military pilots for defense customers.
“As a training systems integrator for air forces globally, this addition to CAE gives us another important capability and opportunity for growth,” Marc Parent, CAE’s president and CEO, said in a statement. He said that CAE plans to expand the NFTC program.
Bombardier’s Military Aviation Training business has about 200 employees. Bombardier, which is also based in Canada, said the sale will allow it to focus on its core business areas.
