UK-based defense manufacturer Cobham has secured a potentially three-year deal to supply its proprietary BRU-61/A small diameter bomb carriage systems for Boeing [BA] fighter and bomber jets and unmanned aircraft.
Under the deal, announced Sept. 20, Cobham would supply Boeing with an undisclosed number of BRU-91/A systems beginning in 2018, with two follow-up options for additional purchases through 2021.
Cobham would manufacture and deliver all configurations to Boeing needed to integrate their small bomb carrying systems into their aircraft. The BRU-61/A allows equipped aircraft to carry four small diameter bomb (SBD)-class precision guided munitions from a single weapons station.
The BRU-61/A is designed for pilots to eject SBD-class munitions while traveling at subsonic of supersonic speeds.
“The BRU-61/A features pneumatic weapons ejection, which increases mission flexibility and reduces downtime and maintenance over pyrotechnic weapons release systems,” said Vice President and General Manager of Cobham Mission Systems, Orchard Park Tim Sopko in a statement. “Receiving this order is a continued affirmation of Cobham’s ability to win new contracts with our pneumatics expertise and dedicated approach to customer success.”
