OSI Systems Receives Large Order for RTT EDS Systems at Airports in France

OSI Systems [OSIS] says that HTDS, its French distributor for the company’s Rapiscan Systems division, has received a multi-year framework contract to provide the RTT 110 explosive detection system (EDS) to Charles de Gaulle and Orly international airports near Paris. The initial order is for four units and OSI says it has not received any indication of additional orders at the moment. Josephine Millward, a security and defense analyst with Benchmark Company, says that industry sources put the value of the new contract at around $100 million, adding that the win is “a strong validation of OSI’s new RTT technology and will provide important credential for the upgrades of more than 2,000 systems in Europe over the next five years.” Unlike most EDS systems deployed for checked baggage screening around the world, Rapiscan’s RTT is based on a fixed gantry design, enabling baggage to be screened at higher speeds. Millward also says the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, Beirut and the downing of a Russian passenger plane in the Sinai “will drive tighter border control, and more security inspection.” Companies that stand to benefit from this heightened threat environment include OSI, American Science & Engineering [ASEI], FLIR Systems [FLIR], L-3 Communications [LLL], Leidos [LDOS], Safran Group’s Morpho Detection business, and Smiths Detection, she says.
