Rockwell Collins in Agreement with Japanese Firm for Border Security Solution
Rockwell Collins [COL] has signed a strategic agreement with Japan’s Nippon Automated Cargo and Port Consolidated System, Inc. (NACCS Center) to help secure Japan’s borders using the company’s ARINC Border Management solution. The NACCS Center manages a system called NACCS for electronically processing inbound and outbound cargo and passenger information for customs and other relevant administrative authorities. The ARINC Border Management system, in collaboration with NACCS, will enable Japanese government officials to review passenger information before aircraft arrive at their destinations, giving them time to identify high risk individuals before they enter the country. The ARINC system uses the passenger name record (PNR), a record in the database of an airline’s computer reservation system that contains the itinerary for a passenger, or a group of passengers travelling together. “With more than 90 airlines flying into Japan, the key to our solution is our ability to, regardless of each individual airline’s capabilities, send PNR data that is actionable to the Japanese government and other authorities that need it.”
Dynasil Supplying Thermo Fisher with CLCY for New RadEye Detector
Dynasil Corp. of America [DYSL] says that its RMD Inc. subsidiary will be supplying Thermo Fisher Scientific [TMO] with packaged solid state detectors based on RMD’s CLCY scintillation crystals for use in Thermo’s new RadEye SPRD-GN spectroscopic personal radiation detectors. Dynasil says that using CLYC, the new pocket-size detector provides both gamma and neutron detection, enabling first responders to quickly locate and identify a wide range of radioactive materials with a single device. “For the past several years, RMD has collaborated with our OEM partner Thermo Fisher Scientific on the development of this RadEye SPRD product, a state of the art instrument for radiation detection,” says Kanai Shag, president of RMD. “CLYC is an example of our research transitioning into products that make a real world difference in protecting the United States from illicit nuclear materials.”
Elbit to Supply Cyber Security Range to Maryland Center
Elbit Systems [ESLT] says its CYBERBIT subsidiary has been awarded a contract to supply its CYBERBIT Range platform to the Cyber Security Training Range (CSTR) of Maryland, LLC, the first hands-on cyber security training center for IT and SCADA security professionals in the U.S. Elbit says the contract is immaterial to its financial results and will be performed in 2017. Elbit says that the CYBERBIT training and simulation platform will serve as the launching capability of the CSTR, instructing cyber security professionals how to protect national assets and infrastructure against cyber attacks. The CSTR enables the entire security and business team to practice the incident response workflow in “hyper-realistic settings that mimic the trainee’s actual work environment,” Elbit says. “Thus, it allows teams to respond faster and more effectively to complex and advanced attacks, such as ransomware, and to perform better as a team.”
