AS&E Nabs $18M Mid East Order for Cargo Scanners; Dutch Acquire ZBV

American Science and Engineering [ASEI] has received a $17.5 million contract from a customer in the Middle East for cargo X-Ray inspection systems to screen for explosive threats and contraband. The award had been expected several months ago. “We are committed to creating a lasting partnership with our valued client and to provide them with the best security solutions for their immediate and future inspection requirements,” says Anthony Fabiano. AS&E’s president and CEO. Separately, the Dutch Customs Administration has ordered a Z Backscatter Van (ZBV) from AS&E to inspect commercial and cargo aircraft. AS&E says the ZBV will scan in real-time a variety of aircraft to reveal organic threats and contraband hidden in the structure of the aircraft. “This new application for the ZBV system provides Dutch Customs with a trend setting solution for their unique inspection needs,” Fabiano says. Dutch Customs currently operates a ZBV at the Port of Rotterdam.

OSI Systems Gets $10M in Orders from Eastern European Customers

OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Rapiscan Systems division has received orders worth about $10 million from customers in Eastern Europe to provide various versions of its Rapiscan Eagle cargo and vehicle inspection products. Deepak Chopra, OSI’s CEO, says the company has “ample opportunities to further expand our presence in this region.”

DHS Awards ManTech $6M for IT Services

ManTech International [MANT] has received a potential $5.9 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to provide a wide range of information technology (IT) services that support the SAFETY Act program. The award has a one-year base period and three one-year options. ManTech has been providing DHS support for the SAFETY Act since the program began. The SAFETY Act provides limited liability protections to companies that sell anti-terrorism products and services.

L-3 Nabs First order for CX-Mobile G3 Cargo Inspection System

A customer in the Middle East has ordered a high-energy CX-Mobile G3 system from L-3 Communications [LLL], the first order the company has received for its third-generation cargo inspection system. L-3 says that the CX-Mobile G3 is the lightest high-energy mobile screening system available and features a boom that can scan the largest road legal vehicles. The system has an “engine off” feature during scanning that allows it to consume less fuel while improving life-cycle cost savings. The company also says that the G3’s interior layout can be customized for varied concepts of operations and provides for co-location of driver, operator and image analyst to enhance communication. The system is powered by L-3’s ClearView imaging system and the new ClearView workstation that integrates data from multiple X-Ray systems and other sensors, such as radiation detectors.

Morpho Providing Services for Australia’s Automated Border Clearance System

Safran Group’s Morpho division has signed a five-year, $10.4 million agreement with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service to maintain their automated border clearance system called SmartGate, which was installed by the company after it won the contract in 2004. Morpho says the recent agreement is representative of its increased focus on service-based solutions. SmartGate identifies passengers who are ePassport holders using facial recognition technology in real-time, comparing the image of the traveler to the digital image stored in the chip of their electronic passport that is acquired through a ticket reader that his integrated into the system. The system simplifies the border control process without compromising border security. “Moving to the new services model is part of Customs and Border Protection’s long-term plan and strategy for the delivery of cost-effective and highly secure border processing,” says Robyn Miller, national manager, Business Capability Branch from Australian CBP Service.

CSC Nabs Potential $145M Navy Contract to Support Fleet Cyber Forces

CSC [CSC] has received a $30.6 million fixed-price, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract for services in support of the Fleet Cyber Forces’ operation and maintenance of the Navy Enterprise Network outside the continental U.S. The contract contains options that bring its potential value to $144.7 million through Nov. 30, 2016.

Implant Sciences Reports Sales to China, Eastern Europe, Mid East

Implant Sciences Corp. [IMSC] has received new orders for its handheld QS-H150 explosives trace detection system from new customers in Eastern Europe and a repeat customer in China. In Eastern Europe, the company has received an order for units to be deployed in the protection of a major bank and has also received orders for use of the devices in training at an international explosives ordnance disposal school. Implant says the QS-H150 has already been deployed in places such as stock exchanges, hotels and federal facilities. Separately, the Beijing Subway System has ordered additional units of the system, bringing to over 200 QS-H150s now in service with the mass transit organization. The subway has 14 lines with 172 stations all built within the last 10 years. It is the fifth largest in the world in terms of annual ridership and fourth longest in the world for track length. Implant also reports a sale of its QS-H150 for deployment in the Middle East at an embassy of a U.S. allied nation, adding a new customer to its base.
