Exponent Team for NSTIC Grant Includes HID, Gemalto

Exponent, Inc. [EXPO], which won a $1.6 million grant in September under the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC) program, says its teammates include Gemalto and HID Global. Under the grant, the NSTIC Key Team consortium will issue secure, easy-to-use privacy enhancing credentials to help secure applications at the Defense Department, a healthcare facility, and a leading social media company through pilot projects. More specifically, the pilot projects will be focused on enabling mobile phones and secure wearable devices such as rings or bracelets to be used like smart cards to secure applications and networks. In government applications the mobile devices will require the ability to produce and store a token associated with a previously used government credential in the device’s secure element, so as not to leverage the previous face-to-face identity proofing process. Exponent is the prime contractor and is responsible for program management, engineering consulting and interoperability testing and evaluation. Gemalto will provide smart and secure credentials. HID will contribute its expertise in mobile and wearable device authentication, credential provisioning, and client middleware. The consortium will engage information services company Experian Corp. for its cyber security expertise.
