SAIC Gets $47M TSA Contract for Hazardous Materials Disposal
The Transportation Security Administration has awarded Science Applications International Corp. [SAI] a potential five-year, $46.8 million fixed-price incentive contract to provide environmental management services for the agency’s field offices nationwide. Services include compliance management, collection, storage, packaging, transportation and disposal of hazardous materials voluntarily abandoned at airport security checkpoints and other TSA facilities, including other hazardous wasted generated by the TSA.
Coast Guard Awards Small Firm $43M for CG-LIMS Software Licenses
The Coast Guard has awarded a potential five-year, $42.8 million contract to Mythics to provide software licenses for a new information technology system to manage the service’s logistics. The award for the software portion of the Coast Guard Logistics Information Management System (CG-LIMS) was separated from the work for the configuration and management of the software system. The Coast Guard is serving as the system integrator and will be directly involved in the software’s configuration and deployment. The CG-LIMS will help the service better manage configuration, maintenance, supply chain and technical data for its assets by migrating legacy systems into a new one through incremental technical refreshments. The HC-144A maritime patrol aircraft will be the first asset to implement CG-LIMS. The first task order under the Blanket Purchase Agreement with Mythics is for $678,000 to purchase 40 user licenses to support the initial configuration for one year. Mythics will provide Oracle [ORCL] e-business products as its CG-LIMS software solution and Ventureforth’s vMobile software to support offline capability.
Michael Baker Nabs Potential $50M US-VISIT Award
Michael Baker Jr., Inc., has received a potential $50 million indefinite-delivery, indefinite quantity contract from the Department of Homeland Security to provide technical support services to the US-VISIT program. The value of the first task order is $3.6 million. The contract has a one-year base period and four one-year options. Michael Baker Jr. is the engineering unit of Michael Baker Corp. [BKR].
AS&E Gets Several Awards in Africa and Middle East
American Science and Engineering [ASEI] announced several contract awards last month from countries in the Middle East and Africa worth millions of dollars. One contract, from an undisclosed customer in the Middle East, is for $8.8 million for a combination of cargo and vehicle screening systems to secure critical infrastructure. The order includes the first deployment of the Sentry Portal high-throughput, high-energy cargo inspection system in the Middle East. In a separate order, AS&E received a follow-on contract for two Z Backscatter Vans (ZBV) for law enforcement agencies in an African country. With the latest order the country will have nine ZBVs. AS&E also received its first order for a ZBV from Saudi Arabia for use in screening vehicles at high threat security locations for explosives and contraband. Saudi already has the Z Portal and OmniView Gantry screening systems from AS&E. Finally, the Democratic Republic of Congo has ordered two ZBVs for smuggled wood detection, the first use of a ZBV for this application. Funding for the purchase was made by The World Bank and the systems are being procured by SGS for the Congo. The ZBVs will be equipped with Forwardscatter capabilities to detect tropical wood that is illegally logged and smuggled out of the country.
Nigeria Orders Smith Detection’s High-Energy Cargo Scanner
Smiths Detection says its has received a multi-million dollar order from Nigeria for its dual-view, high energy Heimann Cargo Vision Stationary cargo inspection system with material discrimination. The order was placed by Global Scansystems Ltd., and is part of the Destination Inspection Program established by the Nigerian Ministry of Finance for the Customs Authorities of Nigeria. The system will be deployed at the customs and border checkpoint between Nigeria and Benin. The material discrimination capability features color coding to help in the detection of threat objects such as weapons, explosives and drugs. Smiths says the HCVS is the most advanced system of its kind in West Africa.
Nasatka Security Gets $20M Order from Rapiscan on Army Contract
Nasatka Security has received a $20 million order from OSI Systems’ [OSIS] Rapiscan Systems division to provide mobile barriers, ballistic and blast-rated guard shacks, and security device interface hardware to integrate a variety of new and existing fore protection equipment under Rapiscan’s $98 million Army Entry Control Point contract that includes surveillance and screening equipment. “This project demonstrates Nasatka Security’s transition strategy and company-wide movement from a traditional barrier manufacturer to a full-service perimeter integrator in the global security space,” says David Natelson, president of Nasatka Security. In addition to barrier protection, Nasatka provides infrastructure and perimeter security enhancements information technology, biometrics, video surveillance, industrial fencing, design and construction, and serial or Internet Protocol sensor integration.
TSA Awards SpectraFluidics $1M for Trace Vapor Detection Development
SpectraFluidics has received a $1.3 million contract to further develop and validate a vapor detection system that quickly and efficiently detects homemade explosives and can be used as an orthogonal detection system with imaging equipment. The contract is the third for SpectraFluidics in the past 18 months from the government. The patented technology leverages two physical principles into a single system: free-surface microfluidics and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. The technology can achieve high sensitivity and specificity of vapor chemistries in a small footprint device.
Kratos to Maintain Security System for Federal Agency
Kratos Defense & Security Solutions [KTOS] has received a potential nine-year contract to maintain a security system and network at a critical infrastructure site of a federal agency. The value of the award and the name of the customer were not disclosed although the company says the potential value, including two three-year option periods, is several million dollars. Kratos adds that it has been providing support to the customer for a long time.
Israeli Business gets $12M contract to Provide Underwater Security Systems
DSIT Solutions Ltd., an Israel-based subsidiary of U.S.-based Acorn Energy [ACFN], has received a $12.3 million order from an unnamed Asian customer to deliver a large number of its AquaShield Diver Detection Sonar and PointShield Portable Diver Detection Sonar systems to protect offshore oil platforms, coastal energy terminals and high value vessels against underwater intrusion and sabotage. Delivery of the systems began in 2011 and will be completed this year. DSIT says it believes the order is the largest ever from the oil and gas industry for underwater security systems. The company began supplying its AquaShield Diver Detection Sonar in 2007 to the energy industry, beginning with a European oil terminal. The systems are also used to protect ports, naval bases and VIP compounds.
LRAD gets Orders from Fort Worth, International Customers
LRAD Corp. [LRAD] says it has received orders for its acoustic hailing devices from Fort Worth, Texas, a customer in the Middle East and Thailand’s Dept. of Disaster Response worth a combined $600,000. Fort Worth ordered LRAD-RX remote long-range acoustic devices as part of a perimeter security upgrade to one of the city’s critical infrastructure facilities, allowing security officials to remotely deter intruders from the safety of command and control centers. The Middle East order is a new one for the company for anti-piracy oil tanker installations. The Thai award is a follow-on contract. The LRAD systems enable security officials to transmit messages with exceptional clarity and to beam powerful deterrent tones.
