Morpho Detection Nabs Heathrow Contract for High-Speed EDS
Safran Group’s Morpho Detection business been awarded a contract with London Heathrow Airport Ltd. to supply 45 high-speed CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection systems (EDS) to screen all in-gauge checked baggage in Terminals 1, 2, 4 and 5. Heathrow is purchasing the high-speed EDS system to ensure compliance with the United Kingdom Department for Transport regulations mandating Standard 3-approved EDS systems to screen all hold baggage by Sept. 2018. Once the systems are installed, Heathrow will operate the largest fleet of CTX EDS systems outside the U.S., Morpho says. The company will also provide logistical and service support and MUX multiplexing software to enable central station and airport-wide networking capabilities. The high-speed CTX 9800 can screen more than 1,000 bags per hour.
OSI Systems Receives $27M Order for RTT EDS at Rome Airport
OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Rapiscan Systems division has received a $27 million contract to provide multiple units of its Real Time Tomography (RTT) 110 explosives detection system (EDS) to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport for inline hold baggage screening. The RTT features a fixed gantry and can be used to screen checked bags at rates of 1,800 bags per hour. “We believe that RTT offers significant value to European and other international airports as they upgrade their screening infrastructure to handle both passenger growth and compliance with the EU’s (European Union’s) standard 3 regulatory requirements,” Deepak Chopra, OSI’s CEO.
Smiths Detection Wins Contract for Checkpoint Security Upgrades at U.K. Airport
Smiths Detection has won a contract to provide new screening technology at the aviation security checkpoint at London Luton Airport in Britain. Smiths Detection will provide the airport with its HI-SCAN 6040-2is dual view X-Ray systems for screening carry-on bags and its Checkpoint.Evo networked checkpoint system. Checkpoint.Evo software links individual X-Ray systems into a fully networked system, enabling centralized remote screening and management to achieve operational efficiencies. This is the first deployment of Checkpoint.Evo in Europe for regular security operations. The security purchases are part of a $149 million redevelopment upgrade at the airport, which includes deployment of a rapid tray return system supplied by Herbert Systems.
Implant Sciences Wins Dutch, Norwegian Orders for ETDs
Implant Sciences [IMSC] says it has received two orders for a combined141 desktop QS-B220 explosives trace detection (ETD) systems in the Netherlands and Norway for used in passenger and baggage screening inn airports. The customers were not disclosed. Implant says many of the 66 ETDs for Norway have already been shipped. “One of the primary requirements of this customer was the quick delivery and installation of non-radioactive ETD systems across the vast distances and challenging terrain covered by these airports,” says Richard Nelson, the company’s general manager, EMEA. For the Netherlands, Implant says the 75 ETDs are expected to be shipped in the company’s fourth quarter. Implant says that in testing for the Dutch, the company was told it had the lowest false alarm rate out of all tested systems. The company said the Dutch win is “prestigious,” which indicates Schiphol Airport is the likely customer. Daryl Jones, Implant’s vice president of Global Sales and Marketing, says the “near-term market for new trace detection screening programs in aviation security in Europe will exceed $45 million. Separately, Implant says it shipped a follow-on order worth about $500,000 for its QS-B220s to logistics provider Kuehne + Nagel. The systems will be deployed across 10 facilities for cargo screening in the U.S. In another deal, Implant recently shipped about $500,000 in QS-B220s to customers in Latin America, most of which were sold to an international airline there.
