Computer Sciences Corp. [CSC] recently signed an agreement with the Department of Defense (DoD) to collaborate on cyber security and threats, the company said.
Under the agreement, the DoD and CSC will collaborate concerning third party attempts to attack network systems. DoD and Defense Industrial Base (DIB) Program members will use lessons learned to improve risk management of critical network infrastructures. This is consistent with the President’s Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, CSC added.
In addition, technical practices developed within the DIB Program will improve the protection and security of information. As the agreement is implemented, the DoD and CSC will build a framework to characterize cyber threats to the defense industrial base, aiding in the development of measures to combat and mitigate these threats, according to CSC.
CSC is one of thousands of private sector companies in the defense industrial base that support DoD programs, but among a small initial group of companies to sign the agreement as a member of the DIB Program. The agreement is a further step in safeguarding vital defense information that is important to the nation’s defense and national security, the company said.
“Cyber attacks are one of the biggest threats to our nation and global economic partners, and CSC is one of the leading IT companies that serves both public sector and private sector firms,” CSC’s Chief Information Officer David McCue said. “As a major provider of IT outsourcing and infrastructure support for the DoD and many of the companies in the defense industrial base, CSC’s proactive approach to cyber security will aid our clients as they implement their own agreements with the DoD. Of equal importance, our approach will help clients worldwide safeguard critical infrastructures vital to their missions and the customers they serve in energy, healthcare, transport, finance and other sectors.”
