The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) seeking novel approaches to insider threat detection that greatly increase the accuracy, rate and speed of detection and that impede the ability of adversaries to operate within government and military interest networks. The agency will host two proposer’s day workshops on the Cyber Insider Threat (CINDER) program, the first on Sept. 2 in San Francisco and the second on Sept. 9 in Arlington, Va. Multiple awards are anticipated. CINDER starts with the premise that most systems and networks have already been compromised by various types and classes of adversaries. These adversaries are already engaged in what appear to be legitimate activities, while actually supporting adversary missions. Sol. No. DARPA-BAA-10-84. Respond by Oct. 22. BAA closes Aug. 25, 2011.
