Defentect says it has received an $80,000 contract to provide its DM3 security management software and Gammatect gamma radiation detection sensors at a hospital in the Northeastern U.S. The installation is the first for the medical company, which has eight locations. “Our solution is configured to monitor for the arrival of radiologically contaminated patients, whether from accidental exposure or planned terrorist attacks,” says Jim Ackerly, CEO of Defentect’s parent company, Splinternet Holdings [SLNH]. “Also, we detect radiological materials that are intended for use in patient therapies if they are removed improperly.” When threat-level alerts are triggered, the DM3 software platform sends information to hospital responders’ cell phones, pagers, PDAs and existing access control and security systems. Defentect is currently deploying a sensor and software installation with the Washington (D.C.) Hospital Center.
