Dell Inc. [DELL] has received a five-year, $92 million contract from the Coast Guard to provide enterprise-wide support services for the entire service, to include its eventual new headquarters at the St. Elizabeth site in Washington, D.C. The Standard Workstation and Communications Infrastructure Support Blanket Purchase Agreement contract is an expansion of work the company’s Perot Systems Government Services business unit has been providing to the Coast Guard for the past decade. The Coast Guard will be the first agency to move into St. Elizabeth’s, which will also be the site of the Department of Homeland Security’s headquarters, allowing the centralization of all support functions while achieving cost savings. “This contract presents a significant opportunity for the USCG to demonstrate the benefits of a true enterprise-wide approach to IT management using virtualization, cloud computing, and enterprise backup and storage among other services,” says Lee Carrick, vice president of Dell Services’ Federal Government Division.
