The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Tuesday said the next annual meeting of the president’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC) will be held May 11 in Santa Clara, Calif., in line with the Obama administration’s increasing outreach to the high technology sector in Silicon Valley.
The annual meeting is typically held in the Washington, D.C., area.
The NSTAC provides a forum for information sharing between the public and private sector in the area of telecommunications and is an outlet for the government to get industry advice related to the availability and reliability of telecom services amid national security and emergency preparedness challenges.
An agenda of the upcoming meeting published in the April 26 Federal Register says the committee will receive keynote addresses from government and industry official on emerging technologies and that there will be two panels, one of industry technology leaders on emergent information and communications technologies (ICT) in the private sector, and the second with senior government officials on the government’s efforts to adopt ICT in support of national security and emergency preparedness functions.
The committee will also vote on an NSTAC report to the president on Big Data Analytics and DHS will provide an update on the implementation of the Cybersecurity Act of 2015.
