The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is holding a symposium Dec. 12 at its Fort Meade, Md., headquarters for Department of Defense mission partners to improve their cloud computing adoption efforts.
The training workshop follows a September directive from Deputy Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan for the department to move toward rapid enterprise-wide cloud adoption.
“Using a crawl/walk/run/fly approach, DISA will engage mission partners to improve understanding of cloud principles, present data to help application owners decide which cloud architecture and solution is best for their organization, and share the three DISA offerings covering both on and off-premise solutions (milCloud 2.0, On-Site Managed Services, and the Secure Cloud Computing Architecture),” said Rear Adm. Nancy Norton, DISA’s vice director, in her monthly agency update on Monday.
During the symposium, DISA will provide participants with working groups for all three applications in the hope of improving cloud provisioning and migration, according to Norton.
Shanahan’s directive established a Cloud Executive Steering Group (CESG) to implement a two-phase program meant to accelerate DoD cloud adoption.
Phase one will include implementing a new acquisition process to acquire an enterprise cloud services solution. In phase two, the CESG is tasked with rapidly transitioning DoD components over to the newly acquired cloud computing platform.
Pre-registration is required to attend DISA’s Cloud Services Symposium or to view the livestream of the event.
