DRS Technologies, the United States subsidiary of Italy’s Finmeccanica, has agreed to acquire Soneticom, Inc., a provider of custom and semi-custom high- technology communications products and systems for customers in government and commercial markets.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close this year, subject to regulatory approvals, including review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
Soneticom focuses on solutions for precision geo-location systems supporting the defense, homeland security and spectrum management markets. The company’s capabilities include hardware and software design and digital signal processing.
“The products offered by Soneticom are highly complementary to our core intelligence systems business,” Richard Danforth, president of DRS Defense Solutions Group, said in a statement. “They can be employed in communications intelligence, electronic warfare and radio spectrum management applications. Soneticom has a strong lineage of customer relationships, a growing installed base of products, and an established position in growing markets.”
Florida-based Soneticom has around 50 employees.
