European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co.‘s (EADS) Military Transport Aircraft recently said it has delivered the sixth HC-144A Ocean Sentry Maritime Patrol Aircraft for the Coast Guard Deepwater program led by the ICGS joint venture between Lockheed Martin [LMT] and Northrop Grumman [NOC].
The HC-144A is based on the successful EADS CN-235 platform that is operated by several civil and military organizations in different countries around the world. From a plan to purchase 36 aircraft, eight are already firm orders, EADS said.
The Ocean Sentry MPA is part of the fixed wing fleet of aircraft designed to enhance U.S. homeland security. Deepwater is a major initiative designed to recapitalize the Coast Guard with an integrated system of assets and capabilities.
The HC-144A was selected to serve as the medium-range surveillance maritime patrol aircraft platform.
