An unspecified Asia-Pacific country awarded Elbit Systems Ltd. [ESLT] an $82 million contract to provide the Condor 2 electro-optic airborne solution for use in intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions, the company said March 29.
The Condor 2 is an electro-optical/long range oblique photography system that provides simultaneous high-resolution visible and infrared reconnaissance images at a long stand-off distance from a target. This allows surveillance and reconnaissance at higher altitudes and greater distances, reducing the change the platform is attacked from the ground.
The Condor 2 can operate from several platforms including fighter aircraft, business jets, maritime patrol aircraft, and other vehicles at altitudes up to 50,000 feet.
The contract is a follow-on order from the same customer and has a performance period of four years. The Condor 2 provision program will be performed in cooperation with ELTA Systems Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries. Elta will be supplying additional content to the same Asia-Pacific customer, Elbit said.
“We are proud of this follow-on contract award, attesting to our customer’s satisfaction from the quality of our leading solutions, well suited for the global intelligence needs,” Elad Aharonson, general manager of Elbit Systems’s ISTAR Division, said in a statement.
“We see a strong and growing global demand for ISTAR solutions, and believe that other customers will follow this Asia-Pacific customer and select our systems for their needs,” he added.
