FLIR Systems [FLIR] said yesterday it has teamed with Sonardyne International Ltd on a substantial multi-million dollar project in the United Arab Emirates.
The companies, with FLIR as the project leader, will provide a commercial-off-the shelf (COTS), integrated perimeter and coastal protection solution for a key coastal facility.
The installed CommandSpacer solution will provide multi-dimensional, wide area surveillance above and below the water line for comprehensive perimeter security.
Under the contract, FLIR will provide ground surveillance radars as well as thermal and CCD imagers. Sonardyne will provide Sentinel IDSr intruder detection sonar.
As with all FLIR CommandSpace solutions, the entire system will be seamlessly integrated via the FLIR command and control software (C2) platform to display radar, sonar and optical data onto a single common operating picture (COP).
“The FLIR team has been pioneering this concept of wide area surveillance for over a decade, and has seen increasing acceptance of the CommandSpace model,” said Bill Sundermeier, president of FLIR Government Systems division. “By utilizing Sonardyne technologies, the installed solution will provide comprehensive sub-sea security as well.”
John Ramsden, managing director of Sonardyne International comments “This contract demonstrates that cost effective, integrated security solutions are now available for the protection of strategic waterside infrastructure.”
This solution will constitute one of the first, truly-integrated maritime domain awareness and intrusion detection solutions for coastal security, the companies said in a statement.
