The State Department last Friday said it has approved two foreign military sales (FMS) to South Korea and North Macedonia, the former a potential $350 deal for engines and related support for the country’s MH-60R Seahawk multi-mission helicopters, and the latter $111 million for Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) and related support.
The FMS for Korea includes six General Electric [GE] T-700 GE 401C or 401D engines, spare engine containers, spare and repair parts, training, and other support.
Lockheed Martin [LMT] builds the MH-60R Seahawks. In 2021, the U.S. Navy awarded the company a $447 million contract for 12 Seahawks for South Korea.
“The proposed sale will improve the ROK’s capability to perform anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions along with the capability to perform secondary missions including vertical replenishment, search and rescue, and communications relay,” the State Department said on March 8.
The proposed sale to North Macedonia follows a previous FMS case with the country valued at $78.5 million that included 71 JLTVs in various configurations. The $111 million deal includes the previous FMS case and augments it with 18 additional M1278A1/A2 JLTV heavy gun carriers and seven M1280A1/A2 JLTV general purposed vehicles.
Included in the sale to North Macedonia are Common Remotely Operated Weapon Stations, related boresight kit components, M21A machine guns, M240B machine guns, MK93 weapon mount, Driver’s Visor Enhancer, Defense Advanced Global Positioning System Receivers with Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Modules, Objective Gunner Protection Kit, Javelin Integration Bracket Kit, and additional equipment and support.
The principal contractors for the JLTV sale are Oshkosh Corp. [OSK], AM General, Leonardo DRS [DRS], and L3Harris Technologies [LHX].
