Britain’s Cobham plc this week said it has a established Cobham SATCOM, a new strategic business unit that combines the company’s satellite communications businesses into one organization.
The new alignment follows Cobham’s acquisition earlier this year of the Danish satellite communications firm Thrane & Thrane, which doubled the size of its satcom business, provided it with a broader range of capabilities in the satcom area, including a leading position in the antenna business (Defense Daily, April 11).
Cobham SATCOM is based in Denmark and will include facilities in South Africa and in California and Florida. The business unit is led by Thrane & Thrane CEO Walther Thgesen.
“The integration of the businesses is going well, with teams focused on how best to bring together complementary product lines and routes to market so that we can grow the business further,” Richard Tyson, president of Cobham’s Aerospace and Security division, said in a statement. “As the demand for airborne, land-mobile and maritime satellite communications continues to increase, we’re working hard to make it easier for customers to buy from us a wider range of satcom equipment and integrated solutions.”
