General Dynamics [GD] yesterday said it has acquired EBV Explosives Environmental Company, a provider of munitions and explosives waste disposal services to the military and other customers, in a deal that extends the life-cycle services it can offer to its munitions customer base.
Terms of the transaction, which was completed with cash, were not disclosed. GD said that the acquisition would be accretive to its earnings this year. Missouri-based EBV has 130 employees.
Through subcontractors, including EBV previously, GD has supplied its customers with demilitarization services but with the acquisition these now become a core offering of the company’s.
“EBV’s unique capabilities and experience expand our munitions-related portfolio, and strengthen our position as a systems contractor for demilitarization,” Michael Wilson, president of GD Ordnance and Tactical Systems division, said in a statement. “This acquisition is a strategic step in meeting our long-term customer-service objective of providing a broad array of demilitarization and related services.”
EBV operates the only commercial hazardous waste incinerator in the U.S. designed for the treatment of explosive wastes. EBV will become GD Ordnance and Tactical Systems– Munitions Services. The Ordnance and Tactical Systems division produces large-, medium- and small-caliber munitions, warheads and propellants.
EBV’s main customer for defense militarization is the Army Project Manager Demilitarization, which is part of the Program Executive Office Ammunition at Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. The program office is responsible for the demilitarization of all conventional ammunition, including tactical missiles and large rocket motors. EBV also provides similar services for law enforcement agencies.
