General Dynamics [GD] said on Thursday it has formed an industry coalition of technology provider to accelerate the adoption of 5G and edge technologies across the government space.
The 5G and Edge Accelerator Coalition includes GD’s GD Information Technology business unit, Amazon’s [AMZN] Amazon Web Services,
Cisco [CSCO], Dell Technologies [DELL], Splunk [SPLK] and T-Mobile [TMUS]. The coalition is targeting federal, state and local agencies with a variety of applications to include military, logistics, supply chain, healthcare, education and smart infrastructure.
GD said the coalition is leveraging GDIT’s Advanced Wireless Emerge Lab and working with government agencies on use cases, prototypes and customizable solutions for quick and affordable deployments.
GDIT is responsible for designing, deploying and maintaining the secure end-to-end 5G solutions. Amazon Web Services will provide its cloud infrastructure to connect edge devices to cloud services. Cisco brings its 5G core and mobile edge computing capabilities for data processing. Dell brings open infrastructure and edge operations software, artificial intelligence-enhanced edge devices and sensors. Splunk will provide cybersecurity automation and edge computing. And T-Mobile will provide network bandwidth and industry solutions for large use cases such as smart infrastructure.
