The Department of Health and Human Services awarded General Dynamics [GD] $20 million to improve IT for Medicare and Medicaid on Wednesday.
GD will “maintain and enhance” the Beneficiary Eligibility Suite of Systems Transactions (BESST) program, which retains beneficiary eligibility information, according to the company’s release. The improvements include linking existing systems and upgrading software.
GD will also contribute program management in addition to documentation and training services for the HIPAA Eligibility Transaction System.
“The systems maintained by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services are critical to ensuring beneficiaries receive accurate and efficient services,” said Marcus Collier, senior vice president of the company’s Health and Civilian Solutions IT division.
The Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP), Retiree Drug Subsidy (RDS) program and the ViPS Medicare System (VMS) are three of the Medicare/Medicaid programs that GD supports. Its new contract will primarily support work in Baltimore, Md.
