The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command has awarded a $138 million contract to General Dynamics [GD] Land Systems-Canada for 82 Light Armored Vehicles (LAVs) for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS).
The vehicles will start being delivered in January 2012.
The contract was signed through the Canadian Commercial Corp., a Crown Agency of the Canadian Government.
Sridhar Sridharan, senior vice president of General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, said, “This order underscores the continued relevance of these proven combat vehicles in modern military forces. We are pleased to be working once again with TACOM in support of their Foreign Military Sales program.”
The vehicles provided under this contract will be the LAV II version–a 300 horsepower 8×8 vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of up to 32,000 pounds (14,500 kg). The vehicles will be produced in four variants: a 25mm turret vehicle, Mortar Carrier, Recovery, and ambulance vehicles.
