Michelle Reichert will become president of Consolidation Nuclear Security, the outgoing management and operations contractor for the Y-12 National Security Site and the Pantex Plant, next week, the Bechtel National-led company said Friday.
Reichert, the currently chief operating officer for the prime, will replace Morgan Smith, who is retiring.
“Morgan has been considering retirement for some time, and he decided the time is now right for him, for his family, and for an orderly transition to occur so that both sites can continue to focus on delivering the mission,” a Consolidated Nuclear Security spokesperson (CNS) wrote in an email Friday.
Bill Tindal, the current Y-12 site manager, will replace Reichert as chief operating officer, after Reichert lands in the big chair next week. Tindal will be dual-hatted for a while and continue as the Y-12 site manager. The new site manager “will be announced soon,” the CNS spokesperson said.
In late June, the National Nuclear Security Administration announced it would not pick up the remaining options on CNS’ contract, citing timecard fraud and nuclear safety lapses, among other things. The company will leave three years worth of options on the table, under a contract worth some $2 billion annually.
The NNSA expects to release the draft solicitation for the new combined Pantex and Y-12 contract in August, the agency said this week.
