The House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday unanimously approved by voice vote more than a dozen bills ranging from nuclear and aviation security to streamlining management at the Department of Homeland Security and strengthening the nation’s fusion centers.
“Collectively, these bills ensure DHS will be a leaner and more efficient department by eliminating several unnecessary assistant secretary positions, abolishing unneeded offices and consolidating other offices that are not operating efficiently,” Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the committee, said in a statement. “These bills also eliminate unnecessary and costly reports within the department. We also mandate efficiency reviews that will help ensure taxpayer dollars are not wasted and are better spent to protect the homeland.”
The bills previously were approved by various subcommittees by voice vote.
