IBM [IBM] said this week it has agreed to acquire systems engineering and professional services provider National Interest Security Company, LLC (NISC) to greatly expand its service offerings to the federal government.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. NISC, based in Northern Virginia, has over 1,000 employees. Its customers include intelligence agencies, the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, and Energy, and other federal civilian and health agencies.
NISC’s expertise includes systems engineering, biometrics, document and media exploitation, systems integration, software development, enterprise architecture, security, information assurance, analysis support and critical infrastructure protection.
“IBM’s analytic and innovation prowess, combined with NISC’s industry knowledge and depth of experience in defense, healthcare, energy, and infrastructure management services, will allow us to deliver an unprecedented level of service and support to our growing list of government clients,” Chuck Prow, managing partner, public sector, IBM Global Business Services, said in a statement.
IBM said that NISC will complement its recently launched Business Analytics and Optimization (BAO) Services for the Public Sector. The BAO team works with government agencies to provide advanced analytics to transform data into predictive intelligence.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close during the first quarter of 2010.
