The Department of Interior, U.S. Geological Survey is soliciting for help in creating a roadmap for 2010 to 2025 for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to meet emerging requirements and applications that require the use of UAS technology. The systems have the potential to support a range of civil applications including emergency response, environmental monitoring, addressing land management issues and assessing the impact of climate change. The roadmap will address the following areas: compile a list of current and potential applications of UAS technology by USGS and Interior bureau partners; provide an overview of current and planned UAS capabilities with emphasis on Defense Department programs of record; discuss the availability of sensor capabilities for UAS; discuss analytical tools to exploit data from UAS; discuss the regulatory environment; and discuss the potential evolution and availability of UAS technology in 2025.
