The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress Nov. 29 of two potential foreign military sales (FMS) to Iraq with a combined total value of $104 million.
Iraq has requested a possible $68 million FMS for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems which includes, High Frequency, Ultra High Frequency, and Very High Frequency radios, Automatic Identification System, Surface Scan Radar System, Forward Looking Infrared System, Situational Display System, Mobile and Fixed Towers, Electro-Optical Cameras, Voice Over Internet Protocol, K Under Band Very Small Aperture Terminal upgrades, generators, spare and repair parts, support equipment, and publications and technical data. The sale would also include personnel training and training equipment, U.S. government and contractor engineering and technical support services, and other logistical support.
Raytheon [RTN] would be the prime contractor.
The proposed sale of the C4ISR system will ensure that the Iraqi Naval Force (INF) is better able to efficiently use its vessels and manpower to police Iraqi territorial waters and protect its strategic maritime assets, DSCA said in a statement. The C4ISR system would allow the Iraqi government to assume more responsibility for its security and rely less on U.S. and coalition forces to establish stability.
Additionally, DSCA notified Congress Iraq wants to buy an estimated $36 million M1A1 Abrams Tank ammunition.
Iraq requested a possible sale of 14,010 TP-T M831A1 120mm Cartridges, 16,110 TPCSDS-T M865 120mm Cartridges, and 3,510 HEAT-MP-T M830A1 120mm Cartridges, DSCA said.
General Dynamics [GD] Ordnance and Tactical Systems would be the prime contractor.
The proposed sale of the ammunition and support will advance Iraq’s efforts to develop an integrated ground defense capability, a strong national defense, and a dedicated military force. This will enable the Iraqi government to sustain its efforts to establish stability.
